Youth Racing Programs

Learn to Race Team  – (Recommended ages 8+)

Price: Member Price $660.00 Non-Member $720.00

(Two week sessions, Lunch included)

Prerequisites: Instructor Recommendation Required

Team members will work towards their CANSail levels with a more focused approach to racing. Students will be introduced to race theory, tactics and drills that simulate racing conditions and experiences.  Students may have the opportunity to participate in local regatta's pending their coaches approval. This is an introductory program in learning the fundamentals of racing; while still maintaining a focus on fun, safety and other fundamental skills. This course is taught using our ZIM Blue Dragon dinghies.

Programs are offered in two week sessions Monday to Friday 9 AM - 430 PM during July and August.

Spring Training

Requirements: Each sailor must provide/Charter their own Optimist, Laser or C420 Dinghy

Price: $565.00 

Get an early start on the sailing season and be ready for all of the regattas. Physical conditioning included to prepare the athlete for their competitions. Dry Suits are strongly recommended for this time of year when the Lake temperature is still cold. Regular training is Saturdays 10am - 4 pm starting in early May. Spring regattas require travel and parents are needed for travel planning, chaperoning, pulling trailers, and assisting at regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from PCYC. Coaching at regattas will be provided.

Optimist Race & High Performance Race Teams

Prerequisites: CANSail 1 & CANSail 2 checklists completed

Requirements: Each sailor must provide/Charter their own Optimist Dinghy

Price: Member Price $1165.00 Non-Member $1285.00

(Four week sessions, Lunch included)

High Performance Team ONLY Member Price $2645.00    Non-Member $2860.00

Team members will continue working towards their CANSail levels, with a focus on keeping the sailor engaged with appropriate challenges and learning opportunities. This allows our OPTI racers to continue to progress through their sailing levels, while providing them with the racing curriculum that they want and love!

High Performance team members are expected to participate in the full season of instruction which will include either the spring or fall program as well as regattas which will require a high degree of commitment on the part of both the sailors and parents. Coaches and support boats will accompany sailors to regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from PCYC.

This program is offered in 4 week sessions Monday to Friday 9am-430pm during July and August.

Optimist Charter

For team members that do not have their own Optimist Class dinghy. PCYC has 5 race ready Optimist Class dinghies available for charter from Spring season through to Fall, chartered by session. In addition to reserving and paying for the charter session a charter agreement with PCYC will be required. The chartered dinghy is only available to the race team member for scheduled programs, races & regattas.

CANSail 5 & 6 Single-Handed Race Team (Laser/Radial)

CANSail 5 & 6 Double-Handed Race Team (C420)

Prerequisites: CANSail 1-4 checklists completed

Requirements: Each sailor must supply their own boat – Laser or Laser Radial or C420 (Charter Options Available)

Price: Member $955.00 Non Member $1005.00 (4 week session)

Full Season Package (Full Summer & Spring or Fall): 

Member Price $2325.00    Non-Member $2400.00

In these programs the advancing sailors’ skills are consolidated and applied to racing/sailing faster. Training becomes more challenging, and complexity is added to result in a sailor with the foundation to carry on in racing, and/or leadership. Port Credit Yacht Club has a long history of excellence in racing, and our travelling race teams continue to bring honour to our club and our sailors. In order to maintain this reputation and high level of performance a greater commitment is expected of the members of our race team. Participation at regattas is an integral part of the program and requires a strong commitment from both the parents and the sailors. Laser Radial Charter

For team members that do not have their own Laser Class dinghy. PCYC has 1 race ready Laser Class dinghy with Radial rig available for charter from Spring season through to Fall, chartered by session. In addition to reserving and paying for the charter session a charter agreement with PCYC will be required. The chartered dinghy is only available to the race team member for scheduled programs, races & regattas.

420 Charter

For team members that do not have their own Club 420 dinghy. PCYC has 3 race ready Club 420 Class dinghies available for charter from Spring season through to Fall, chartered by each crew member per session. In addition to reserving and paying for the charter session a charter agreement with PCYC will be required. The chartered dinghy is only available to the race team members for scheduled programs, races & regattas.

Fall Training

Keep improving your sailing & racing skills and extend the sailing season. Regular training is Saturdays 10am - 4 pm through to the end of October.
