Over the last number of year we hear more and more frequently of break in and theft at many of our neighboring marinas and yacht clubs. We have been fortunate that this has not been a significant problem at PCYC. There are many reasons and thoughts around why we have not been affected as much as our neighbors.

Some of the reasons (in no particular order):

  • Proximity of the local Peel Marine Police unit.
  • Frequent patrols of the park area by the Peel Police.
  • The presence of year round harbour staffing.
  • A significant amount of member traffic and activities at the club in the off season.
  • The presence of the year round boating community.
  • The diligence of club members and staff to keep an eye open for suspicious people or activity around the club.

Regardless of the reason we are still vulnerable and there is a limit to the measures that can be put in place to protect to the membership and the club facilities. This won’t stop us from striving to improve the security around the club over the next few years.

The first phase of our security upgrades was completed with the installation of a CCTV system. The club has installed a CCTV system that will permit the passive monitoring of the main entrance gate, the member parking lot area, entrances to the main docks, the LTS area and the pool area.

We respect the privacy of our membership so the cameras will not monitor the mooring area of the floating docks.

In future we will be looking at improvements to address better access control for the main entrance gate.

Remember that security is the responsibility of all members and staff. So stay aware and alert. If you see something suspicious ask questions, make a note, and contact the club management staff.

The Peel Police - Marine Unit can be contacted at 905-274-3946 or call 911 in an emergency.
