Stonehooker Trophy
Donated by PCYC.
First awarded in 1973.
Awarded to the yacht in Main & Jib "B" with the best low-point total. This 1973 trophy is a large shield named after a type of flat-bottomed sailing barge used to recover stones from Lake Ontario. At the turn of the century a large fleet of stonehookers was working off Port Credit, "hooking" stones for construction. The picture on this plaque is of the stonehooker, "Madeline", which worked out of Port Credit Harbour until the 1920's. The photo etching is from an original by Charlie Gibbons, taken in 1895
Originally, presented to the Schooner Race which was held annually at PCYC. |
